Ganga Arti at Dashaswamedh Ghat

The Varanasi Ganga Aarti takes place every sunset at holy Dasaswamedh Ghat, near Kashi Vishwanath Temple. It differs from the aartis at Haridwar and Rishikesh in that it’s a highly choreographed ceremony..Gange aarti takes place at 6.45 PM in the evening after the sunset for around 45 minutes at the Dashashwamedh ghat in the Varanasi. Devotees have started to come to see the Gange aarti at least one hour before.

Tulsi Manas Mandir

Tulsi Manas Mandir, Next to the Durga temple is this modern marble sikhara-style temple. Built in 1964, the walls of the temple are engraved with verses and scenes from the Ram Charit Manas, the Hindi version of the Ramayana. Its medieval author, Tulsi Das, lived here while writing it and died in 1623.

Durga Temple

The temple has a rectangular tank of water called the Durga Kund (“Kund” meaning a pond or pool.) The temple has multi-tiered spires and is stained red with ochre, representing the red colour of Durga. The Kund was initially connected directly to the river thus the water was automatically replenished.

Pashupatinath Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath is one of the four most important religious sites in Asia for devotees of Shiva. Built in the 5th century and later renovated by Malla kings, the site itself is said to have existed from the beginning of the millennium when a Shiva lingam was discovered here.
